Using this site for the first time?
The Inspiring Learning for All web site includes on line information and learning materials.
It has five main sections and additional sections directing you to useful resources and further help.
Each section of the site has materials that you can download to read and/or work through with colleagues. These materials have been developed to respond to the feedback we received from piloting Inspiring Learning for All and the Measure Learning toolkit with museums, archives and libraries. We hope you will find them useful. In Resources & Further Info we have included a full menu of downloadable documents. In the Contact us section we have included a feedback sheet so that you can let us know what you think and help us to improve the site.
The web site content and downloadable materials will be relevant to you at different stages in implementing Inspiring Learning for All. We anticipate that you will use these flexibly over time, according to your need.
If you are a first time user this is how we suggest move through the site.
1. First work through Introduction to learn more about the background to Inspiring Learning for All, some of the benefits of using it and the philosophy behind it. Here you can
- Download a summary and the full framework
- Explore what we mean by learning in museums, archives and libraries
- Find out about the process of developing the framework and who has been involved in this
- Discover what the sites piloting the framework did and the results of their experience
2. The Use the framework section will enable you to prepare to introduce Inspiring Learning for All and then continue with its implementation. This section takes you through a cycle from initial planning to take action. It includes checklists for the framework itself and practical workshop activities and guidelines for engaging your colleagues in the process.
3. Measure learning includes guidelines on how to start to assess learning outcomes for users in your organisation using the Generic Learning Outcome system (GLOs) developed for this project. Measure Learning is a substantial section of the site. It will enable you to
- See why this it is important to start to measure learning outcomes
- Develop a focus for a study to measure learning outcomes in your organisation
- Use the generic learning outcomes to develop methods and tools that suit the needs of your study
- Code, analyse and interpret the evidence that you record
- Think about effective ways of presenting this evidence to suit the objectives that you have agreed.
This section as well as background information and downloadable materials this section includes interactive activities to help you develop your understanding of the GLOs and how to use them. We suggest you get a quick overview of the content and then work more slowly through the various stages that are outlined in Steps in the Process.
4. Win support will support the development of your advocacy work both internally and externally. It includes relevant sources and statistics and two presentations that you can download and tailor to your own context.
5. Go further encourages you to use this process to strengthen commitment to learning internally and by working in partnership with others. It includes guidance materials and case-studies which illustrate the ways in which organisations piloting Inspiring Learning for All and the Generic Learning Outcomes successfully raised the profile of learning and stimulated professional development. We suggest that you dip in and out of this section as you work through Use the Framework and Measure Learning. It sets those two sections in a wider context and focuses on the deeper changes that are needed to place learning at the very centre of museums, archives and libraries.
6. Go to Resources & further info- for a glossary of terms, to read some frequently asked questions and to find other relevant resources and important contacts
We hope that you find the site interesting, stimulating and supportive in developing an inclusive and accessible museum, archive or library that inspires and supports learning.
